24. Prince Edward County and surrounding area

While in Southern Ontario this summer, we also ventured northeast to Belleville, Cobourg and Prince Edward County. We started off with a visit to Belleville, where we spent a really fun weekend with Brent & Sarah, Jeff & Kristen, and Jen & Jason (and their precious daughter!). We had tons of laughs, shared lots of yummy meals (excluding a trip to Smoke’s Poutinerie haha!), went for a beautiful waterfront walk, played with baby, and played lots of bean bags/cornhole. I thoroughly enjoy a good deck hang out, and love a campfire, and we were able to do both with this crew! A big thanks to Jen and Jason for having us all at their place, and to all of these couples for making it such a fun weekend!

After leaving Belleville, we zipped into Cobourg in time for Sarah and I to make it to a waterside outdoor yoga class, which was incredible! The instructor asked us about our favourite and least favourite poses, and then worked both into the class, reminding us how important it is to be uncomfortable sometimes. Later on that day, the three of us enjoyed a walk by the beach in Cobourg. After some food and beverage shopping, Jeff and Sarah prepared a delicious meal for us all.

We had a great night playing games and hanging out! In the morning, we set off to a surprise location: Prince Edward County! Will and I had not spent time in this area before, and loved exploring here! After visiting Chadsey’s Cairns winery, we stopped at Lake on the Mountain for lunch. We then visited Waupoos winery for tastings before checking into Isaiah Tubbs Resort.

We enjoyed hanging out by the water for a while before heading out to the Drake Devonshire restaurant for dinner. We were able to sit out on their deck looking out at the water while enjoying an awesome meal. We followed dinner with drinks closer to the water before a frightening cab ride back to our rooms.

Since there were some questionable smells in the room Sarah and Jeff had, we were all able to get an upgrade and were moved to better rooms to hang out that night. In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast in Picton and strolled through the great shops and galleries downtown. We then visited Barley Days brewery for tastings before visiting Love Nest gallery (http://www.loveneststudios.com).

We loved chatting with Tara, the woman responsible for the creation and photography of these beautiful nests, and also enjoyed walking through the old barn that her and her husband, Andrew, converted into a gallery for his encaustic artwork. Meeting interesting people and hearing their stories is one of my favourite things about travelling, and Tara did not disappoint!

Afterwards, we stopped at our final winery, Hinterland winery. We then made dinner and had lots of fun chatting and playing games. In the morning, we said goodbye to this amazing duo, but not before picking up fresh-out-of-the-oven biscuits at the market Jeff works at! A special thanks to Jeff and Sarah for having us, and for planning such a memorable surprise trip!
