4. Fernie

Dates: September 20-21, 2014

Additional Challenges Met:
2/5 trips with friends

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having and get out for a new hike again this weekend. Since it had been quite a while since we had seen our great friends in Fernie, Rob and Steph, we headed that way Saturday. They had some other friends pop in too, which is one of my absolute favourite things about Fernie. When and how did we get so far away from just popping in, having a visit without having a plan? I guess I worry that I will be interrupting, but I don't think I am alone in loving this, so maybe I will have to try it out some more! We had a great dinner there, and played a mean game of Ticket to Ride. We love hanging out with these guys because they are easy going and fun and super entertaining :) In the morning, we headed out the door to this beautiful view:

and headed the short distance to Mt. Fernie (we traded Steph in for another friend Jamie because Steph went to play hockey). Kepler led the way, starting down a wide, flat path,

that quickly turned into a skinnier, constantly-up path. The hike was approximately 2 hours up, with such rewarding views the whole way along. It was absolutely stunning out too, which was a total bonus.

We snacked and chatted at the top for a while, then headed back down. We ended up being out for 4 hours, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend our Sunday morning! We met Steph back at the house later on for late lunch, and another favourite Fernie gal, Gabe, popped in (I'm just loving this!). We headed off for a sunny drive home later in the day, refreshed and rejuvenated for our late start to the school year on Monday! We've been out of the school for 3 months due to a teacher's strike, and we are excited to get back to work and back to the kids!

Thanks Steph and Rob for a great weekend!
